Our passion is supporting parents!
Our Mission
Mending Hearts Family Counseling Center, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a parenting enriched community for those raising children with special emotional and behavioral needs, whether theses challenges arises for autism, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, or just the natural temperament of a strong will.
While all our services are free for families, we have a special "heart" for families in rural, low incomes areas and families with children in foster care.
Current Services
We offer free Parent Support Workshops, free virtual family coaching support, and free resource finding and referral lists - all in English and Spanish. We have an online parenting course in development that will also be free for families in both English and Spanish.
And we are excited to share about our International Training and Certification Program in Parent-Child Care (PC-Care) Parenting Protocol for physicians, therapists, and other healthcare and paraprofessionals who will be certified by UC Davis Children Hospital upon completion.
Researched, Practical, and
Therapeutic Support for Parents
While we do not provide psychotherapy, all of our services are based on the principles of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Over 40 years of research and 100’s of studies have shown that PCIT can radically transform emotional and behavioral challenges in school-aged children and restore a sense of calm and joy to parents in their every day interactions with their children.
Through PCIT parents learn therapeutic play and behavior therapy skills so they can become their child's own therapeutic specialist and gain the confidence to quickly calm fears, dissolve tantrums, and help their child respond to directions quickly and happily.
And for kids with ADHD, the CDC has recommended PCIT as a first line of treatment for children 6 and under before trying stimulant medication.
We also based our services on the Parent-Child Care protocol (PC-Care) which is the newest protocol to develop out of PCIT and which has a specialized sub-protocol for infants and toddlers as well as autism and functional diversity.
Developed at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, PC-CARE has been shown by research to have a greater rate of improvement than PCIT in that time period, and was created to be flexible and tailored to each family’s strengths and values.
